It dawned on me the other day, how slowly more of what I do was being handled online rather than resident on my own machines. First there is Dropbox, which has revolutionised the way I work. I have a desktop computer that I use for big projects, a laptop that I use for around 80% of my work, a netbook which I slip into my bag and take on business trips, not to mention mobiles, iPods and PDAs. But most of my current projects sit in my Dropbox.
My client records are handled through Zoho, the online CRM system. Zoho also handles email and online documents which I guess I may explore in time. Of course there are also Google documents.
For wireframes, I use both Mockingbird, and HotGloo; not yet decided which one suits my needs better.
I have long been a fan of Microsoft One Note, but I am being attracted to Evernote, which though lacking many of the features of Microsoft’s heavyweight, has the obvious advantage of accessibility for nomadic users.
This move to more online working has crept up on me silently and I wonder just how far it is likely to go. I took a look at Aviary – online image manipulation, draw and paint packages and more. While it is not up to the standards required by professionals, and Adobe should not be quaking in their shoes just yet, the writing is on the wall.

Hey there, I’m Spencer. I work for a company named Syncables, and after reading through this, I think you might want to check us out. We make a localized syncing software that I’ve found makes a great compliment to dropbox. Our client is cross-platform, and it lets you keep your files, contacts and email synced between your computers over your home or office network, which is great for when you can’t get an internet connection but still need to transfer things between your machines. Additionally, Syncables includes a media component, which allows you to upload your media to any phone or usb drive.
Anyway, come check us out sometime at http://www.syncables.com!
